Corbin Brooks grew up in the Tidewater region of eastern Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies. After a summer of living and rock climbing in Yosemite National Park, she decided she wanted to stay out west. She moved to Portland to work in the field of sustainability consulting. She then changed course to work as a legal assistant at Metropolitan Public Defender.

Corbin graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. During law school, Corbin led the Post-Conviction Advocacy Project, a student group that assists incarcerated individuals in preparing for the parole process. Through this group, she worked closely with one individual for two years and represented him during his parole hearing. Corbin was also a member of the Trial Team, an editor of the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law, and a law clerk at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Oakland. In her final year, Corbin joined Berkeley’s Death Penalty Clinic, where she drafted post-conviction briefing and contributed to media and outreach efforts in a death penalty case.

Before joining Equal Justice Law, Corbin spent two years in Anchorage clerking for Judges Tracey Wollenberg and Timothy Terrell on the Alaska Court of Appeals, which handles appeals in cases involving criminal prosecution, post-conviction relief, juvenile delinquency, extradition, habeas corpus, probation and parole, bail, and sentencing matters. Corbin enjoyed her time running, climbing, skiing, and aurora viewing around Alaska.
